📣 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

It’s with a heavy heart that I’m writing this post to announce I’m stepping down from my role. During my 7 years volunteering with Rotherham Pride, I’ve worked with such dedicated and committed people who have also volunteered their time and efforts with the LGBT+ and wider community to make Pride and all other activities possible.

I’ve truly given my all to Rotherham Pride and have been so passionate in trying advocate and drive change for the LGBT+ community. My role as Chair Person certainly has not been without its many challenges and there still remain barriers to overcome.

I’ve been delighted to support Rotherham Pride to grow, flourish and most importantly bring people together in a safe space.

We’ve done so much more than our annual Pride event with events and activities all year round including (but certainly not limited to):
-Drag Story Hour making it to BBC news
-Proud in Rotherham Project, giving local LGBT+ community a platform to have their voice heard and professional photos displayed
-LGBT+ awareness date events
-Thinking of You packages delivered during Covid-19 pandemic
-Virtual Yoga sessions during Covid-19
-Virtual quiz nights during lockdowns
-Christmas Market
-Cabaret Night
-Monthly quiz nights at Fitzwilliam & Hughes
-Representation on the Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel
-Involvement & attendance with wider community events
-Delivery of LGBT+ awareness training

As per constitution, we have followed the process and the current committee will no longer stand with immediate effect.

Over the years we have conducted many recruitment drives for volunteers and understand many people do not have the availability to volunteer in what is the equivalent to a full-time role for many months of the year.
I sincerely hope a new team of volunteers will have the capacity, time and motivation to make Rotherham Pride happen.

Remaining funds will be donated to local charities, who support the LGBT+ Community and champion diversity and inclusion. These will be announced soon.
Finally, I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has volunteered including the Committee, the LGBT+ Community, Community Organisations, Acts, Workshop Providers, Sponsors (the list goes on and on).
Please take care, be kind and stay safe.
Kirsty (She/Her)
Chair Person, Rotherham Pride
